General Questions:

  • ART 64 is a two-day bracket-style tournament taking place in The Village of Tosa, highlighting diverse, nationwide artists and local businesses, presented by the City of Wauwatosa.

    In three rounds, artists are paired to go head-to-head and given 60 minutes to create a work of art on a predetermined theme on canvas.

    Members of the public, both in-person and virtually, are invited to watch the paintings come to life and vote for their favorite artists to advance online.

    All participants receive money for participating, increasing based on the round they reach in the competition. The sole winner of ART 64 receives $20,000 in total.

  • The Village of Wauwatosa, along the closed State Street, Harwood Avenue, and Underwood Avenue, and at the Root Common Park.

  • In plein aire, outside, scattered around the streets of The Village of Wauwatosa.

  • If there is light weather, artists will work under tents or be moved inside the local businesses to continue the competition. If there is heavy weather, the rain date is scheduled for Sunday, June 9th, 2024.

  • Round 1 - Friday, 5:00-6:00PM

    Round 2 - Saturday, 10:00-11:00AM

    Round 3 - Saturday, 1:30-3:00PM

  • There will be announcements at Root Common Park after each round has ended:

    Advancement to Round 2 will be around 8:00pm on Friday.

    Advancement to Round 3 will be around 12:45pm on Saturday.

    Final 4 and Grand Prize Winner will be announced around 4:30pm on Saturday.

  • Public street parking is available on Harwood Ave east of Wauwatosa Ave. Public parking lots are available on Harwood Ave west of the Menomonee River, on Wauwatosa Ave between Harwood Ave and Blanchard St, and at Hart Park.

    Additional street parking is available at Tosa East and St. Matthew’s, as well as in the surrounding neighborhood, within walking distance to The Village of Tosa.

  • Please see our preferred hotels in Wauwatosa here. Artists are responsible for their own travel accommodations.

  • There are no organized shuttles. There are various parking options around Wauwatosa. We recommend ride sharing apps or public transportation. Bus lines 31, 33 and 76 have stops in the Village of Tosa. For an MCTS system map, visit the RideMCTS website.

    There is a Bublr Bikes station located on Harwood Ave across the bridge west of the Menomonee River.

  • When visiting ART 64, please consider making a cash contribution to our community partner Tosa Cares, which works to provide food and assistance to families in need. Tosa Cares is also accepting cereal, cans of tuna, peanut butter, healthy snacks, and any nonperishable items.

    You can also donate directly to ART 64 while using our silent auction app.

For Attendees:

  • In addition to the 64 artists painting, the event will have food and drinks available for purchase, live music and performances, and pop-up activities from local businesses. Paintings will also be available for purchase via online auction.

  • Food and beverages can be purchased from any of the local restaurants in the area. Additionally, Lowlands Group (Cafe Hollander and Buckatabon Tavern & Supper Club) is the official beverage sponsor and will have a pop-up outside of Cafe Hollander, as well as in Root Common Park, serving beer, wine, and alcohol-free options.

  • No, you do not need to register in advance. Voting can be found on the ART 64 website on event days. More detailed voting info will be available at the event and below.

  • Visit art64tosa.com/voting OR scan the QR code on signage throughout the event by pointing your phone's camera and tapping the link that appears on your screen.

    Voting will open 60 minutes after each round completes.*

    Check the web page, follow the @ART64 social media channels, and listen to onsite announcements for voting opening times.

    Follow the instructions on the web page to cast your vote for your favorite paintings! You must vote for every matchup.

    In the final round with 16 artists, you will only select the one (1) artist you want to win ART 64.

    Make sure to fill in the information in the form fields below the voting and hit the "ENTER" button before the voting end time or else your vote will not be counted.** You may only vote one time each round.

    **Voting will be open for one hour only. All votes must be cast within that one-hour period. Any votes still in progress at the close of the voting period will not be counted.

    *Photos of the paintings will be uploaded to the voting platform 60-45 min. after the round ends in preparation for voting. Feel free to mingle with artists, browse and bid on the artwork, or grab a beverage while you wait for voting to go live! This is a dynamic event, and the times listed on signage are subject to change. Please be patient.

  • Still need help voting or placing your BID? Visit the Information Tent near Root Common Park or find one of our helpful volunteers (in orange shirts) to assist you!

  • All ages are welcome!

  • Handicapped parking spaces are available in the public parking lots located on Wauwatosa Ave between Harwood Avenue and Blanchard St. Handicapped parking spaces can also be found in the public parking lot on Harwood Avenue West of the foot bridge.

For Buying Artwork:

  • Yes! All artwork EXCEPT the final winning piece will be available to bid on in a silent auction. Bidding may only be done via the OneCause website.

    Scan the QR codes around the event or click here to bid on artwork.

  • Before bidding, register by clicking “Sign In” and provide your:

    • Email/Name

    • Password (create one)

    • Credit Card Information (including Billing Address)

    It's more efficient to do this now, rather than later if you hope to bid and take home a painting

  • After registering, the auction system creates a "Your Activity" tab for you to see your browsing and bidding history/status, view final receipts, and edit/add profile and credit card information.

  • Browsing is encouraged! Check it out by simply clicking “All Items” on the toolbar. You may also make a donation to the local parks or to the continuation of the event.

  • High Bid: Your bid is currently in the lead!

    Outbid: An item you bid on was surpassed by another bidder. (You can bid again!)

    Max Bid: Set the maximum price limit you are willing to pay for an item right off the bat! The platform will automatically increase your bid when you are “Outbid” until your “Max Bid” limit is reached so you don’t have to continually bid on your own.

    Unavailable: This item has received the highest bid and was won/purchased.

    Watch: Items you are interested in and tracking for bidding updates.

    Won: You are the winning bidder. Congratulations!

  • Bidding on all items ends at 5:00pm CST on Saturday, June 8th, 2024. The last bid that is processed prior to the auction’s closing time will be the winning bid. All winners will receive a congratulatory e-mail to the email address provided upon registration.

    PAYMENT

    If you are a winning bidder, the credit card you provided during registration will automatically be charged for the amount of your final bid, plus applicable sales tax, once the bidding closes at 5:00pm CST on Saturday, June 8th, 2024. ALL SALES ARE SUBJECT TO STATE AND LOCAL SALES TAX, WHICH WILL BE ADDED TO EACH PURCHASE.

    All auction items must be paid in full prior to pickup.

    AUCTION ITEM PICK-UP [ONLY]

    Bid winners can pick up their art between 5pm and 7pm at the Art Display & Silent Auction Tent on Saturday, June 8th.

    For those who are unable to pickup their purchased painting on Saturday, June 8th, you may pick up your piece at Wauwatosa City Hall beginning on Monday, June 10th. There will be no shipping of artwork. Pick-up by appointment only. Please contact Beth at bgleesing@wauwatosa.net to arrange. Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    • Auction proceeds benefit the artist, the City of Wauwatosa Parks, and future ART 64 events.

    • Interested individuals may also track their bids and/or place new bids before and after event hours from anywhere they have internet access. Simply click on the Silent Art Auction link at art64tosa.com to visit the auction website.

    • Items are available for inspection during the event, and are sold in “as is” condition.

    • Auctions sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds on items.

    • Values set on the website are an estimated starting value, and neither the value nor the quality of any time is warranted by associated parties for either tax purposes or general value.

For Artists:

  • All participants will receive money for participating, increasing based on the round they reach in the competition.

    All 64 artists who participate will receive a minimum of $100.

    Artists who advance to Round 2 will receive $250 in total.

    Artists who advance to Round 3 will receive $750 in total.

    The sole winner of ART 64 will receive $20,000 in total.

  • Artist check-in will be from 3:00-4:00PM on Friday, June 7th for all 64 artists.

  • Artist check-in will be next to Root Common Park, on Harwood Avenue.

  • An easel, chair, table, and 16x20” canvas will be provided for each artist for the first two rounds. A 2x3’ canvas will be provided for the final round.

    If artists do not want to use the provided canvas, they can bring their own material provided it is trimmed to 16x20” size for the first two rounds and 2x3’ size for the final round.

  • Artists are solely responsible for all other necessary supplies and materials relating to the creation of their work, including but not limited to: utensils, paint, battery-operated lighting for easels (if desired), etc.

    ***Provided that some artists have different mediums, needs, and preferences, each artist may bring their own canvases/papers if they wish so long as they are 16x20” for the first two rounds and 2x3’ for the final round. Artists may gesso their canvas. However, artists may NOT pre-draw/paint on their canvas.***

  • Round 1 (64 artists): Artist Choice - Artists paint whatever subject (and in whatever style) they want!

    Round 2 (32 artists): Nature - Artists paint a subject found in or around nature, including flora, fauna, landscapes, urban environments, etc.

    Round 3 (16 artists): Origin - Artists paint their interpretation of where they came out from; their community, culture, childhood, surmounted obstacles, or inspiration.

  • During the tournament, paintings will be hung on a pegboard display beneath the 20x30’ tent.

    Discover Wauwatosa will auction all artwork online through OneCause’s mobile bidding auction platform. If sold, artists will receive 70% of sale, 20% commission will go to the Wauwatosa Parks Improvement Fund and will be used to contribute to park system improvements adding to visitors’ experience and enjoyment of our parks and green spaces, and 10% will be used toward funding the following year’s ART 64 program.

    Following the tournament, Discover Wauwatosa will hold all unsold paintings for up to 90 days of exhibition at the Wauwatosa Public Library.

    If unsold after 90 days of exhibition, artists can claim works in-person from Discover Wauwatosa. If artists do not claim their artwork within 30 days, the artist waives their right to their artwork and it will become the property of City of Wauwatosa to donate, repurpose, or discard.

    All artists grant Discover Wauwatosa the right to use the name, likeness, and artwork for promotional purposes.
